I decided to jut down some random notes on my usage of Sonar 8.5 with regards to the accessibility in no particular order. These will probably be converted into FAQs at some point.

Watch out

If you get strange layout problems, make sure to uncheck the “enable tabs for open views” option under the “view” menu. It may be a great candy feature, but it does confuse screen readers quite a bit.

In Sonar 8.5 you will not be able to navigate between fields in the Synthrack view. You can, however, still use JSonar's commands, like M for Mute, S for Solo, C for Connect etc.

Loop Explorer is now replaced with Media Browser; it does many of the same things but supports more formats (please read Help for more info). JAWS11 may not report your location correctly, or not at all, when you are located in the treeview with folders.

Windows 7, JAWS 11 and Sonar 8.5

Make absolutely sure that your version of JAWS is properly installed inside Windows 7 and is functioning correctly. In particular, it is vitally important that Mirror Display Drivers work and you do not get any errors from JAWS on their account. If you do, please make sure to reinstall JAWS.

Sonar needs to run as “administrator” in order for the JSonar Control Surface to be able to communicate with JAWS. If Sonar does not run as an “administrator”, you will be getting “0 strips” message every time you navigate in the track view.

Equally import is to make sure that UAC is completely disabled, i.e. its slider is set to 0. Otherwise, similar problems arise as described above. Please beware that disabling UAC may potentially make your system more vulnerable to Trojans and other nasty software
